In addition to being a gentleman thief greatly influenced by the fictional master of disguise and thief Arsène Lupin, Assane Diop also happens to be what we would call a sneakerhead. Throughout the show’s three-season run, the character has worn various Nike shoes, but none more so than the Air Jordan 1. Join us as we look back at some of Lupin’s most memorable Air Jordan 1 sneaker moments.
Air Jordan 1 Retro High “Fearless UNC Chicago”
In the first and second seasons of the Netflix series, Assane Diop wears these patent leather shoes. The Chicago and UNC colourways inspired the eye-catching colour scheme on these sneakers. The shoe was created in honour of Michael Jordan’s ten-year induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. An even greater tribute is paid to Mike’s Hall of Fame speech, in which he stated, “Limits, like fear, are frequently just an illusion.”
Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Shattered Backboard 3.0
In Chapter 8, Diop wears a pair of black and orange crinkled patent leather shoes while having coffee with his closest friend, Benjamin Férel. The shoe’s design was inspired by Michael Jordan’s jersey from the 1986 exhibition game in Italy, during which he broke the backboard.
Air Jordan 1 Mid “Grey Aqua”
This black, grey, and aqua mid-top is featured in the eighth episode of the popular show. Lupin wears them for a staged romantic dinner with the enemy’s daughter, Juliette Pellegrini.
Air Jordan 1 Mid “Yellow Toe”
Both Parts 1 and 2 of Lupin feature a bold Air Jordan 1 Mid ‘Yellow Toe’ sneaker. However, you get a good look at the shoe when Assane goes to save his son, who has been kidnapped by Leonard Koné, one of Hubert Pellegrini’s hired killers.
Air Jordan 1 Mid “Lakers Top 3”
You can see this pair on Diop’s feet when he visits his friend’s jewellery store in Part 1 to get a replica necklace. The nubuck and leather upper of this unique sneaker design is decorated with the ‘Top 3’ Jordan 1 High colourways (Yellow, Chicago, and Royal), while the satin-covered Swooshes sport the purple and yellow team colours of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Starfish”
When he takes on the persona of Delangle in the third episode of the Netflix series, Omar Sy’s character dons this low-top colourway that was modelled after the attire Michael Jordan wore when he famously broke the backboard in an exhibition game in Italy in 1985.
Air Jordan 1 High “Crafted”
This sneaker, with its white leather base and brown, green and grey nubuck overlays, is visible when Assane leaves for the church at the end of episode 2.
Air Jordan 1 Retro High “Pollen”
This stunning black and yellow Jordan 1 is on full display when Diop cruises the streets on a black motorbike in Season 3 Part 1.
Air Jordan 1 Mid “Metallic Orange”
When Diop is at the top of a nearby tower, devising a plan to steal the Black Pearl in Lupin Season 3 Part 1, he is wearing this white pair with orange accents.
Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Red/Black Toe”
In Chapter 9 of Lupin, Diop sports these chic red, white and black sneakers that are reminiscent of the 2018 Air Jordan 1 Union LA Black Toe. One scene in which you can see the pair is when Diop dances to the Four Tops’ “I’ll Be There (Reach Out)” while preparing food in the kitchen.
