We rarely see new colourways of Michael Jordan’s 17th signature shoe. The sneaker is somewhat of a rare gem in the Basketball Legends sneaker lineup. However, artist Smooth Gear (@smoothtwo3) has created a striking “Black Cement” concept look for the Air Jordan 17 low, to get us enthused about the stylish silhouette’s promising future.

A Closer Look At The Sneaker
With Jordan Brand releasing two throwback colourways for the low-top model last year and an expected collaboration for the silhouette set for this year, the Air Jordan 17 Low appears to be making a comeback in the sneaker world. So it’s no surprise that sneaker artists like Smooth Gear are exploring new design possibilities for this iconic shoe.
The artist used the classic look of the Air Jordan 3 colourway to create a sleek black and cement grey AJ17. The upper is composed of black tumbled leather, and the sock liner sports the distinct elephant print design. The Air Jordan 3’s iconic look also served as the inspiration for this AJ17’s red eyelets. The shoe ends off with a black and grey sole unit with a chrome strip running along the heel.
What We Like About The Sneakers
The AJ3’s Black Cement style has been imagined on several Jordan models throughout the years. Still, it really jumps out on the AJ17’s jazz-inspired design—we especially like how the sock liner features an elephant print pattern, a tribute to the AJ3’s hallmark motif.
Is The Jordan 17 Low “Black Cement” Available For Purchase?
Even though these are just concept shoes, the potential for Jordan Brand to introduce new colourways—like this “Black Cement” design—to celebrate the model’s 25th birthday in 2027 is definitely something to be hopeful about. This year itself will see the release of a collaboration with INFINITE ARCHIVES, adding to the anticipation for even more AJ17 colourways in the future.
