As Easter celebrations bring a bout of fresh excitement, we thought it apt to bring to light a unique interpretation of Jordan sandals. Surprisingly, these unique custom shoes by Chase Shiel capture the resurfacing ‘Jesus sandals’ or Jandals trend, which has recently seen a subtle comeback in the world of fashion.
The Intriguing Tale of the Jordan Sandal
This extraordinary footwear design was introduced by the talented Melbourne sneaker artist back in 2022. Shiel’s spark of inspiration was an intriguing mural created by a fellow Melbourne resident- a meme graffiti artist known as Lushsux.
The mural highlights the signature aesthetic of Jesus sandals, but with a notable twist. The illustration had the recognisable Nike Swooshes on the side.

To bring the look to life, Shiel opted for Chestnut Chromexcel pull-up leather to craft the eyestays, straps, the signature Nike Swoosh, and the sandal’s leather laces. This material contributes to an aged, worn-out look that perfectly suits the sandal’s theme.
In addition to the above, he incorporated a sole from Birkenstock, crafted from a combination of natural latex, cork, jute, and top-quality suede. As much as we’d have loved seeing Jordan’s classic sole unit, this alternative pays a better homage to the authentic sandal aesthetic.
What We Love About The Unique Footwear
The Air Bethlehem Jordan sandals are an unexpected fusion of vintage appeal and imaginative rethinking of the original Jandal. Who would have thought of combining the Jandal with a Jordan silhouette?
