Just when you thought Jordan Brand had squeezed every last drop out of the black-and-red “Bred” colourway, here comes another twist. The iconic “Banned” Air Jordan 1 is set to return in Summer 2026—but this time, it’s going low.
According to sneaker leakers like @zsneakerheadz, Sneaker Files, and Sneaker Market Romania, the Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG “Banned” will drop in the classic Black/Varsity Red/Summit White colourway, complete with the bold red “X” on the heel. If you know your Jordan history, that red X isn’t just for show. It’s a direct nod to the 2011 high-top version that sneakerheads still obsess over today.
In 2011, Jordan Brand dropped a special “Banned” version of the Air Jordan 1 High. But instead of a glitzy, hyped-up release, it landed quietly at Nike outlets. Why? Because someone goofed. The insoles said the Air Jordan 1 was banned in 1985, when in reality, it was the Nike Air Ship that got the NBA’s disapproval. But that mistake didn’t hurt the release. It made it even more sought after.

That 2011 pair became a cult favourite, thanks to its premium leather, hidden details, and subtle storytelling. The red X on the heel, special insole callouts, and unmatched build quality made it a standout in a sea of GRs.
Now, 15 years later, the Banned saga continues with a low-cut version. It keeps most of the original detailing: the red Swoosh, toe box, heel wrap, laces, and outsole pop against black panels and overlays, while a clean Summit White midsole balances the whole design. The red X is back on the heel and shows up again on the insoles—but with slightly different execution from the 2011 version.
And yes, it’s technically still called the “Banned,” even though the Air Jordan 1 was never actually banned by the NBA. But at this point, that myth has become part of the brand’s legacy. It’s less about historical accuracy and more about rebellion—and that red X still sells.
Retail is expected to land around $145, which is relatively reasonable for a sneaker that ties back to both the origin of the Jordan line and one of its most hyped outlet drops.
