Custom sneaker artist Nicholas Reynolds has a soft spot for nature themes in his sneaker designs. While his previous viral sneaker design was inspired by the beauty of winter, the Air Jordan 1 “Terrarium” captures the colours and textures of a terrarium, with a dash of snake-themed whimsy thrown in for good measure.
Air Jordan 1 “Terrarium” Sneaker Design
As mentioned, Reynolds’ latest masterpiece draws inspiration from the rich palette and textures of terrariums. However, what elevates this design is the incorporation of snake-like elements, a subtle homage to the reptiles often found in these miniature ecosystems.
The shoes have a black base, reflecting the dark soil of a terrarium. Although most of the sneaker is covered with smooth leather, touches of tumbled leather have been incorporated into the ankle flap and the lower eyestays.

The rest of the shoe is also adorned with its own unique texture. Bumpy, spotted accents in a lush, glossy green dress, the toe box, collar, and lower eyestay flap, while bright green spots adorn the toe cap and upper eyestays.
The finishing touch? Neon green acrylic decorations placed on the tongue, heel, and sides, leaning into the shoe’s playful, mystical snake theme.
Why We Love These Sneakers
We’re in awe of every little detail on these shoes, from the stunning play with texture to the profile Swooshes and tongue label etched with snake symbols. They add an unexpected and exciting edge to the overall design.
