Nike and Under Armour have landed on ransomware leak sites, right alongside other retail names that caught heat from hackers last year. In Nike’s case, an extortion crew called WorldLeaks says it slipped into the company’s systems, grabbed data, and started applying the usual pressure for payment. WorldLeaks even put up a countdown clock set for 6 p.m. Saturday, promising to publish information if Nike doesn’t pay up.
Nike is taking the hacker’s threats very seriously. “We always take consumer privacy and data security very seriously. We are investigating a potential cyber security incident and are actively assessing the situation,” the brand told Footwear News.
Nobody has officially confirmed what information WorldLeaks actually got. Ransomware hauls often include basics like names, email addresses, phone numbers and gender. Sometimes the stash looks scarier than it is. Dell, listed on WorldLeaks’ site, said in July 2025 that hackers pulled 1.3TB from a product demo platform, but described the info as synthetic or publicly available.
Under Armour’s headache seems harder to shrug off. The Everest ransomware gang claimed the breach, and some reports threw around a wild figure of 72 million email addresses. Under Armour pushed back hard: “We are aware of claims that an unauthorized third party obtained certain data. Our investigation of this issue with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts is ongoing. Importantly, at this time, we have no evidence to suggest this issue has affected UA.com or systems used to process payments or store customer passwords,” Under Armour said. “Any implication that sensitive personal information of tens of millions of customers has been compromised is unfounded. The security of our systems and data is a top priority for Under Armour, and we take this issue very seriously.”
Adidas dealt with a third-party customer service breach in April, too.
Nike still hasn’t revealed whether or not the company will pay the hackers.
