This Air Jordan 1 Inspired by J Balvin’s “RIO” Is So Bright, It Deserves Its Own Festival

This Custom Air Jordan 1 Is Inspired By The J Balvin "RIO"

There’s massive hype around the new J Balvin x Air Jordan 3 “Rio” sneakers. The shoe is a hot pick among Jordan fans this year. Hence, it’s become a popular trend for sneaker artists to give their unique spin to this striking look. A prime example is the J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 “Rio” by custom sneaker artist John Trottier. He has brilliantly incorporated the original colourway’s distinct design elements onto one of Jordan’s most iconic silhouettes.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker’s Design

The sneaker’s upper mostly sports a sleek black look. Yet, a sudden shift to softer, light grey elephant-print leather on the toe cap and collar cleverly references the hallmark AJ3 silhouette.

This brings us to the heel and ankle regions. They are wrapped in a mesmerising sunset-ombre effect, the same effect that illuminates the original J Balvin “Rio” design. There’s a subtle gradation from a rich purple to fiery reds and then oranges, while finally, a sunny yellow takes over at the base of the heel.

The design is capped off by a dark black midsole and a bold orange rubber outsole, which creates a harmonious finish.

Why We Like the Sneakers

It’s hard not to swoon over the magical sunset-ombre effect set against the matte black backdrop, irrespective of the silhouette. Plus, little touches like the elephant print detail on the toe cap and collar add an extra dimension to the design.
